About the Artist
REUDE: A Contemporary Vision
Globally recognised for his distinctive artistic voice, REUDE has emerged as a defining figure in contemporary art. His recent inclusion in the new London Museum stands alongside his acclaimed exhibitions 'Art Banquet' and his collaborative work with MuseLAB, cementing his position within the modern art canon.
Multifaceted Practice
REUDE's practice spans large-scale canvas work, expressive sculpture, and unique objects—including notable pieces like sports cars transformed into objects d'art. Currently exhibited alongside Picasso and Warhol in the Joseph Fine Art Gallery, his work is characterized by a "pure, child-like expression" that employs striking visual language rooted in human-centered themes from the 1980s Neo-Expressionist movement.
Critical Recognition
Critics have recognized REUDE's expressive style as a powerful, contemporary evolution of Neo-Expressionist tradition. His work draws meaningful comparisons to seminal figures such as Jean-Michel Basquiat and Keith Haring, sharing their commitment to dynamic, immediate expression and human connection.
Collaboration with Taku Mitzuni
This exhibition marks a historic partnership between REUDE and master artisan Taku Mitzuni. Together, they have created a series of unique works that celebrate and preserve the ancient Japanese art of shibugami paper production.
Shibugami: A 600-Year Legacy
Shibugami is a rare, endangered Japanese paper traditionally reserved for dyeing fine silk kimono. Its production methods, passed down through generations, represent centuries of refined craftsmanship. Through this collaboration, we aim to raise awareness and contribute to the preservation of this endangered material and the artisans who keep the tradition alive.
Historical Significance
Each piece in this collection represents not only modern artistic vision but also a commitment to preserving techniques that span six centuries. The collaboration demonstrates how ancient materials can speak to contemporary concerns.
Creative Vision
By seamlessly blending shibugami's rich historical gravity with REUDE's dynamic artistic language, this partnership creates objects that transcend traditional boundaries between fine art and craft.
Beyond the Exhibition
The collaboration has also produced a series of films documenting the creative process, directed by filmmaker Jay Green. These pieces offer viewers an intimate glimpse into how REUDE and Mitzuni work together to transform this ancient material into contemporary art.
